Bocce

2012 Results

Nineteen Skidmark stalwarts enjoyed a glorious Spring day in the sun rolling those fickle little balls, reveling in each other’s company and challenging the always daunting “ULTIMATE” course in this year’s version of Bocce.  The competition was intense and the alcohol ingestion was uncontrolled!

Ten teams faced off in the round-robin event which culminated with an awards ceremony, a potluck feast, and a sad send-off for two die-hard Skidmarks.

Capturing the 2012 Skidmark Bocce Championship with a record of  5 and 1 was team “Sticky Bandits ” .  Shari Williams and Steve Lane plowed through the competition!!  They were honored with bottles of liquid grape extract!

Just missing the top spot were Sue Crawford and Clay Whitney --- team “Awesome Kharma”. They boasted a 4 and 1 record --- not quite good enough for the top award. For their efforts they received nothing – just as all the other mediocre teams!

Pathetically unable to break into the win column were Glenda Whitney and Dave Rodriguez. The other teams pretty much had their way with them. The “Somethins” were awarded the coveted “Skidmark Loser’s” trophies for their efforts! A hearty “Congratulations” is in order.

For those wondering what the “ULTIMATE” course was – just envision a regular court with a gigantic hump in the middle. This course posted quite the challenge. Most good strategies in playing this course failed miserably!!

Everyone had a great time; drank a little alcohol; smoked a tobacco product; shot the breeze; and enjoyed a good meal!

The downside to the entire event was saying goodbye to Dave and Kim Rodriguez. They have sold their home in Visalia, retired from their jobs here and are moving back east in June.  OMG – we’re going to miss them!!! Maybe we can coax them into returning for one of the tournaments in the future!

We’ll be back again in the Fall for some rousing golf.  FORE!!!

 2011 Results

A nice breeze, balmy temperatures, and fierce competition were the order of the day.

Upon completion of controlled ball-flinging, the "Hot to Trot" team (Kim Rodriguez and Gil Jessup) walked away with the Skidmark Bocce Championship and voting rights for THE trophy. Hot to Trot finished the tournament with a gleaming 4 and 0 record!

At the opposite end of the Skidmark spectrum was the "D & G" team of Dick Fitzgerald and Glenda Whitney (hence the D & G) with an 0 and 5 record ---- ouch!  In their defense, D & G did try their best !! OOps, that really doesn't matter in Skidmarkdom!  Therefore Hot to Trot team members voted the coveted Crainesbury Trophy to newcomber, Dick Fitzgerald (Glenda has had the trophy before).

In-the-pack finishers and declared safe from trophy possession were the teams of "Ball Busters" (Shannon O'Dell and Jim Crawford) - 3 and 2, "Gorilla Balls" (Donnie O'Dell and Sue Crawford)  - 3 and 2, "Tostito Balls" (Monica Pasquini and Dave Rodriguez) - 3 and 2, "Folly Ballsters" (Judy Fitzgerald and Clay Whitney) - 3 and 3, "Klinker Balls" (Charla Phillips and Dave Pasquini) - 2 and 2, "Rollin' Balls" (Marta Bassett and Dave Pasquini) - 2 and 2, and "Don't Know Balls" (Yvonne Jessup and Russ Bassett) - 1 and 3.

After three hours of intense bowling the majority of the group adjourned to Orange Bloosom Junction Restaurant for a relaxing dinner with all the prom queens and kings!

 Be there next year!!!
